2019 Buzzer Tournament

It is very much hoped to repeat the Buzzer Tournament that was held in Liverpool last September.  A preliminary planning meeting to discuss the format of the day and the sourcing of questions is scheduled for Wednesday 20 March 2019 at the Unison Social Club, Bishop Rd, St Helens, WA10 6SX starting at 7pm immediately prior to the Mimir Competition.  If you would like to attend please contact your Local League Secretary.

President’s Competitions

President’s Trophy

Many congratulations to Ormskirk who clinched this year’s Trophy having lost only one of their eight matches.  Thanks to all who took part and provided hospitality and to Dag Griffiths for organising the competition.

President’s Shield and Challenge

This year’s Shield competition needed a playoff to separate Ormskirk and Wirral.  It took place on Wednesday 6 March before the President’s Challenge Tournament at Old Swan Conservative Club.  After a very tight match that went to a ninth round, the teams could not be separated and so they decided to share the 2018-19 Shield.  Many congratulations to both teams.

The evening then continued with a very close competition for the Presidential Challenge in which Wirral emerged victorious.  Well done to them!

Thanks to all who took part throughout the season, to Frank McFarlane for administration, Dave Tilley for the Play Off set and to Angela and Cliff Houghton for Challenge night refreshments.  Let's hope that next season is just as close!

Martin Prendergast

It is with great sadness that the Wirral Quiz League announce the death of Martin Prendergast of Gladly Stoned.  Martin's funeral will take place on Friday 9th November at 2:30pm at Landican. Our thoughts go to his family and friends at this time.

Jubilee Buzzer Tournament 2018

The MQL Jubilee Buzzer Tournament took place at the Bradbury Centre in Liverpool on Saturday 15 September.  Teams from Cambridge and Milton Keynes were amongst the 17 that took part together with 3 from Wirral and 1 team from each of the other Merseyside areas plus 2 made up of other MQL players.  After 82 quizzes and a very enjoyable day the team representing Liverpool defeated Lancaster in the Final with Milton Keynes winning the Plate.  Many congratulations to the winners and indeed to all who took part, but especially to organiser Jon Stitcher and the team of 8 dedicated Question Persons who asked well over 5000 challenging questions.
