The 2025 Jubilee Pairs Competition was to have been held on Wed 24 September 2025. Unfortunately this had to be postponed.
We have rescheduled to Wed 28 January 2026 and it will be held at Burtonwood Community Centre, Green Jones Brow, Burtonwood, Warrington WA5 4LH starting at 8pm.
At the event all entrants will be placed into either a higher or lower pool and a draw will create pairs made from a player from each pool. The First Round is a 50-question written quiz that will find the top 6 pairs. In the Semi-finals these six pairs will be asked questions in turn in a '15 to 1' type format. A pair will start with three lives and lose a life each time they answer incorrectly or fail to answer. The questioning will continued until only three teams remain. Those three teams will then contest the Final played in the same way until a winning pair is found. A Plate Final is also held for the pairs finishing 7th, 8th and 9th in the First Round.
Last year’s champs were Dag Griffiths (S&F) & Lee Whitehead (Orm) who won a very closely contested Final with Graham Barker (Liv) & Alan Thompson (Orm) and Angela Doyle (Liv) & David Hodgson (Orm). In the Plate Final Bill Gerrard (Orm) & Tony Gannon (Liv) were worthy winners.
