Merseyside Quiz Leagues

The MQL Jubilee Buzzer Tournament took place at the Bradbury Centre in Liverpool on Saturday 15 September.  Teams from Cambridge and Milton Keynes were amongst the 17 that took part together with 3 from Wirral and 1 team from each of the other Merseyside areas plus 2 made up of other MQL players.  After 82 quizzes and a very enjoyable day the team representing Liverpool defeated Lancaster in the Final with Milton Keynes winning the Plate.  Many congratulations to the winners and indeed to all who took part, but especially to organiser Jon Stitcher and the team of 8 dedicated Question Persons who asked well over 5000 challenging questions.

Buzzer Tournament Results - 2018

The next MQL Council Meeting will take place at 8pm on Sunday 9th September 2018 at Old Swan Conservative Club, Derby Lane,  Liverpool L13 6QE.  Agenda and Minutes of previous meeting in About MQL/Administration.

The 2018-19 season will begin for many teams on Monday 3^rd September and fixtures will be available from your local league Secretaries via the Handbook and /or the website.  This season will of course mark the Diamond Jubilee of the founding of the MQL in Bootle in 1959.  We hope to organise several events throughout the course of the year to celebrate this landmark, the first of which is the Jubilee Buzzer Quiz Tournament (details below).

We will keep you posted about all these events as information becomes available.  However something you might consider is getting involved in existing competitions.  The Merseyside Challenge Cup is open to all teams and takes place on 4 or 5 Wednesday evenings between October and March.  Played in a group format in the early stages, the MCC is MQL’s main team competition.  If you’ve not entered before or it’s a few years since you took part, why not give it a try in this Jubilee season?  There are more details here.

Tournament joining details have been moved to MQL Diamond Jubilee Celebrations

As part of the recent London Open Quiz Festival, 8 teams including the MQL took part in the annual tournament for the Don Bissett Trophy. As usual the strong opposition contained some of the best players in the country, but after wins over Teeside and Yorkshire, MQL defeated Wessex in the final to win the competition for the first time since 2009. With “masterful” squad rotation all 5 areas of the MQL were represented!
