Don Yule was a member of the MQL who helped found the Quiz League of London when he moved south. He also instigated an annual North vs South challenge match between the President's Trophy winners of the two Leagues. Due to player availability, over the years this developed into a Challenge match between the MQL and the QLL. When long standing MQL Chairman, Don Bissett died in 1996 it was decided to name the Cup for this Challenge match in his honour.
The competition was subsequently extended into a knockout tournament involving teams from another six Leagues or Areas and is now played as part of the QLL Open Quiz Festival held in London each June.
