Merseyside Challenge Cup 2018-2019
Group Stages - 20 teams are taking part this season. In each group, each team plays each other once. In order to separate possible ties on points at the end of the group matches, points will be allocated as follows;
4 points for a win, 2 points for a draw and 1 point for losing a match by a score of 4 or less
If still a tie then total match points scored will be used. A team who fail to fulfill their fixtures will be unable to proceed to the QF. The non-offending team will receive 4 points and the average of the winning match scores on the night.
Qualifiers for the Quarter Finals of the MCC will be the 5 winners of each group and the best 3 runners-up.
Qualifiers for the Quarter Finals of the Plate will be the next best 8 teams from all groups.
Please note the following resolution agreed at the June MQL Council Meeting
Introduction of Players from outside the MQL for Cup Competitions
As they are scheduled for Wednesdays, some teams will invite players to join their team for the occasional game in Cup competitions to make up numbers. On the whole these are friends or relatives who have no other allegiances or quiz “pedigree”. But sometimes the invitation is extended to players from other Leagues or to professional setters or players.
From the start of the 2018-19 season, if a team wish to include such players, then they must seek permission from the Competition Secretary. If this is not done then the game, when played, may be forfeit.
