Merseyside Quiz Leagues

To try to avoid any problems caused by postal delays, all sets needed for matches until the Christmas break have now been dispatched.  Please take great care to check that you are using the correct sets over the next few weeks.  Home and away captains should check the dates before opening the envelope!

The competition got underway on Wednesday 12 October.  The Draw, Fixtures and Results can be found here. 
The second round of matches were on Wednesday 9 November with the final round on Wednesday 14 December.

On 14th September Ormskirk Quiz League hosted the 2nd Jubilee Pairs Tournament at Prescot Cables FC.  38 players entered and were randomly assigned into pairs, before taking part in a 50 question qualifying quiz.  The top 6 pairs went into the semi-finals, while the next three pairs competed in the Plate final.  

Special thanks must go to our General Secretary Brian Thompson for providing us with such an interesting, varied and entertaining range of questions.

In the Plate final Jack Gardner (S&F) and Dag Griffiths (S&F) prevailed.

After three pairs were eliminated in the semi-final, the final was contested between Mark Kerr (Liv) & Mike Berry (S&F), Neil Wright (Wi) & Chris Quinn (Liv) and Jim Eccleson (Wi) & Nick Corless (Wa).  The title was taken by Neil and Chris who did not lose a life in the final.  They are seen below receiving their trophies from MQL Chairman Danny Grimes.  Full results here.

It was decided at the MQL Council Meeting on 11 September that out of respect for Her Majesty the Queen, all MQL matches planned to take place on 19th September 2022, the day of her State Funeral, should be postponed.  

Questions that have been sent out to you should be kept safe and used for the re-scheduled match. This should be played on the date of the return fixture or as arranged by your local Area.

Matches scheduled for Tuesday 20 September are unaffected.

Many congratulations to Ormskirk's Pat Gibson who last Saturday became the British Quiz Champion for the seventh time.  Pat led a field of 154 players that also included Alan Gibbs who finished in seventh place.  In a busy day Pat was also the winner of the Pairs Championship.  Well done to them and to the other MQL players who took part at the event in Northampton.
