Merseyside Quiz Leagues

On Wednesday 15 May the MQL Finals and Presentation Evening brought the 2023-24 Quiz season to a close.  The event was held at Winmarleigh House, Warrington.  Congratulations to Aigburth People (Liv) who beat Fisherman's Rest (S&F) to win the MQL Plate Final.  In a very close Mimir Final Colin Foster (War) won the Individual title for the first time defeating Dag Griffiths (S&F),  Angela Doyle (Liv) and John Wilson (Orm).  In the last final of the evening  Oxton defeated Ringers to win the Challenge Cup.  The matches were followed by the presentations to the winners and runners up of the above and of the Rendon and Feeny Cups and also to the winners of the President's Shield and President's Trophy.  Thanks to Warrington and Winmarleigh House for hosting the evening.

Congratulations to Ringers who won this year's Feeny Cup with two emphatic wins over Kluggers in the semi final and Cricketers in the Final.  Sarah Trevarthen and John Hall both achieved a full house in the final.  Full results here.

Although only five teams entered the Rendon Cup all games were extremely close.  Turks Head Saints won the competition after a very close Final against Exiles that went to a ninth round.  Full results here.

The Merseyside Heats of this year's Mimir Individual Competition were held on 20 March at Winmarleigh House in Warrington.  The 32 players who qualified from the five Leagues played three rounds of very close matches.  Many congratulations to Angela Doyle (Liv), Colin Foster (War), Dag Griffiths (S&F) and John Wilson (Orm) who will contest the Final at the MQL Finals and Presentation Evening on 15 May back at Winmarleigh House.  Results can be viewed here.

It is with sadness that we report the death of Brian Bates.  Brian was a loyal member of the MQL.  Although he rarely played, he was a regular QP and assisted with administration in both Warrington QL and MQL.  He was a regular attender of Council meetings and continued to support the Leagues as he had his late wife Elaine in her quizzing and during her Presidency of the MQL.  Brian was a serving Vice-President of the MQL.  Our sincere condolences go his son Robert and all the family.  The funeral will be at Howe Bridge Crematorium near Leigh, M46 0PZ on Tuesday 2nd April at 3pm.
